OCHA Field activities, Mali
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) established a permanent presence in Mali in 2012 in response to the crisis caused by the conflict in the north of the country. To respond to the multiple needs of the country, OCHA: Coordinates the common response of the various humanitarian actors present in Mali (United Nations and NGOs) working in the sectors of food security, nutrition, health, education, shelter, protection, and water, hygiene and sanitation; Mobilizes the resources needed to implement the common response plan through a fundraising appeal; Ensures data management to analyze the evolution of the humanitarian situation and the ongoing response; Advocates with the various actors and decision-makers to promote the protection of people affected by crises as well as the provision of aid that is adequate to their needs and in accordance with humanitarian principles; Develops common guidelines to guide humanitarian action in Mali; Also ensures civil-military coordination to create and maintain a dialogue with the military forces present in Mali in order to promote access, and a climate of security and protection of civilian populations and humanitarian actors; Supports complementarity between the interventions of humanitarian organizations and those of the Government and its development partners.
