Multi-sectoral and Integrated Lifesaving Humanitarian and Development Support to South Sudan
South Sudan remains in a transitional phase wherein the implementation of the peace process, economic conditions and longstanding informal political structures are unable to support the demands of a myriad of humanitarian needs and crises. These circumstances are further exacerbated by the impacts of climate change and the compounding pressures placed on remaining natural resources to cope with the needs of the communities. South Sudan remains as one of the most logistically complex operating environments, with a lack of infrastructure, cumulative effects of three years of record-high rainy seasons, and presently at least four different theatres of conflict within the country. The project provides an integrated and multi-sectoral approach encompassing activities in Displacement Tracking (DTM); camp coordination and camp management; shelter and non-food items; water, sanitation and hygiene; health; mental health and psychosocial support; protection; common pipeline; and the Common Transport Service (CTS). IOM's efforts will focus upon three interlinked and mutually reinforcing areas of intervention: camps and camp-like settings; underserved and hard-to-reach areas facing great severity of humanitarian needs; and humanitarian coordination and critical enablers of such coordination. The above-referenced units will respond within and across these same areas of intervention.
