Supporting the Humanitarian Response to Assist Crisis-Affected Communities in Sudan
The heavy clashes (armed conflict) between the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) that erupted on 15 April 2023 mainly in Khartoum and other states of Sudan affected thousands of the populations in Sudan. As of the beginning of May 2023, at least more than 600 people were killed, over 5,000 injured and over 700,000 displaced. IOM proposes to address critical humanitarian needs by providing shelter and non-food item (NFI) support for vulnerable crisis-affected populations in Sudan. Focus areas of the action consist of 1) procurement and prepositioning of critical relief items as part of IOM’s established common pipeline system; 2) warehouse management and maintenance; 3) humanitarian pipeline management, including distribution of items to other humanitarian partners (including transportation and logistical support, on an as needed basis). These relief items are also being used as a pipeline during any type of emergency in Sudan and help support national and local humanitarian actors’ (implementing partners) capacity to deliver timely life-saving commodities and supplies to the affected people.
