Contribute to the Economic Recovery of Iraq Through Employment Creation and Revitalization of Local Economies - Phase IV

This project contributes to the economic recovery of Iraq through employment creation and revitalisation of local economies supporting internally displaced persons (IDPs), returnees, and host communities. The project is implemented through a combined approach that offers beneficiaries both longer-term livelihoods support via sustainable job opportunities and employability enhancement, as well as shorter-term economic income assistance to buttress the financial security of the most vulnerable individuals. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) will strive for the latter through the Cash-for-Work (CfW) programme which will provide short-term financial assistance to individuals with the aim of alleviating poverty and/or debt among the most vulnerable beneficiaries and their families. Under the interventions designed for longer-term economic impact, IOM aims to: 1) build the capacities of vulnerable households through the delivery of individual livelihoods support, 2) promote an enabling environment for businesses to re-open and stimulate job creation and 3) provide or facilitate economic opportunities for market actors by supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs) via the Enterprise Development Fund (EDF). Capacity-building assistance will augment the financial support provided to SMEs, helping to improve their borrowing prospects and relationships with financial institutions.
