Addressing the Immediate Humanitarian Needs of the Most Vulnerable Populations in Ukraine

On 24 February 2022, the Russian Federation launched a broad military offensive in Ukraine. The situation in the country quickly deteriorated, leading to a significant number of Ukrainians and third country nationals forced to flee the country. Since the onset of the crisis, as of May 2023, an estimated 5,088,000 people remain internally displaced in Ukraine and an estimated 8,255,000 displaced abroad. More than a year into the full-scale war in Ukraine, there is a continued need for humanitarian assistance among the most vulnerable conflict-affected populations in Ukraine. In continuation of its critical work in Ukraine, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) is addressing the most pressing, immediate humanitarian needs through a multi-sectoral response focused on shelter, non-food items, camp coordination and camp management, protection, mental health and psychosocial support, water, sanitation and hygiene, and multi-purpose cash assistance. This also addresses cross-cutting issues to enhance the capacity and understanding of IOM And partners to deliver evidence-based assistance in a safe, dignified and coordinated manner. This project is specifically targeting newly accessibly areas in Southern and Eastern Ukraine, as well as other areas heavily affected, including Northeastern Ukraine.
