Budget for this programme
$230.3M
230.3 million USD

In 2026, UNRWA will increase access to safe drinking and domestic water for up to 1.4 million people through water trucking, the provision of household chlorine tablets for water treatment, and the maintenance and rehabilitation of water infrastructure, including wells and supply networks. The Agency will also construct or reconstruct desalination systems equipped with generators, pumps, solar power and storage tanks to restore sustainable water access. Approximately 1.7 million people will benefit from UNRWA’s sanitation and solid waste management interventions, including the operation of sanitation fleets and solid waste collection and transfer from camps and Agency-managed shelters to authorised landfills. To address environmental health risks in overcrowded conditions, UNRWA will construct emergency toilets and bathrooms, rehabilitate sewage networks, distribute family hygiene kits and implement hygiene promotion and vector control activities in its shelters. The Agency will also deploy mobile teams and specialised equipment to undertake winterization measures, including clearing drainage systems and repairing stormwater infrastructure.
