TNAJ Measuring e-commerce and digital trade in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
The project aims to establish the evidence base needed to understand the current “state of play” regarding e-commerce in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) and provide a baseline against which to monitor future developments and the impact of policy actions. It consists of two tracks – a “domestic” track focusing on Saudi businesses as key actors in the e-commerce landscape with a view to assessing the degree of uptake of e-commerce and the value of business transactions facilitated by e-commerce in the Kingdom, and an “international track” supporting the development of internationally agreed guidelines and recommendations on measuring e commerce value through the UNCTAD Task Group on Measuring E-commerce Value (TG eCOM). The international track also includes the development of training materials based on those guidelines and recommendations, as well as the delivery of two regional training workshops to support their implementation across countries. The international track offers an opportunity for KSA to make the priority given to e-commerce measurement visible on the international stage and to cement a position among the leaders in this area, building upon previous initiatives such as the “Roadmap toward a common framework for measuring the digital economy” developed under the 2020 Saudi Arabian Presidency of the G20.
