OCHA Field activities, Somalia
Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) Somalia supports the humanitarian response and advocacy efforts of the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, humanitarian partners and government authorities at federal and state levels. Decades of conflict, climatic shocks - characterized by recurrent droughts and seasonal floods - and severe economic decline continue to drive the people of Somalia into a state of a protracted humanitarian crisis. OCHA continues to contribute to strengthening the links between humanitarian, development and peace partners to respond to immediate humanitarian needs, while supporting longer term solutions to build community resilience and break the vulnerability cycle. In collaboration with all relevant actors, OCHA mobilizes action for preparedness advocates for a coordinated approach to addressing durable solutions for IDPs and issues of climate change, especially in relation to drought and flood management.
